The following is the first entry in my diary of my Summer 2004 Spanish Backpacking Shindig. The complete log is quite extensive and typed already in one big text file: I just need to find either time or tools to convert it into multiple posts of bloggy goodness.<\/p>\n
I am away from my continent right now.<\/p>\n
Well, not yet.<\/p>\n
But this Wednesday, I set off for Paris (via Pittsburgh and Chicago,
\nbecause direct routes are not my strength) on American Airlines
\nwith only carefully-concealed items on my person, one barely carry-on
\nsize backpack, and one \u00e2\u20ac\u0153personal item\u00e2\u20ac\u009d size mini-backpack (and their
\nmeager contents) to my name.<\/p>\n
I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m gonna be so broke.<\/p>\n
I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m also going to be spending precious little time in France (if
\neverything works out), fleeing instead to the Iberian Peninsula\u00e2\u20ac\u201dhome
\nof people who speak Basque (and some terrorists who love them),
\nGalician, Catalan, and millions [give or take] of different
\nlanguages\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 oh yeah, and Spanish and Portuguese. THAT\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s why I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m
\ngoing there.<\/p>\n

\nyou other than that, but soon it will be of even less interest as
\nI add a journal, updated as often as I can motivate myself to at
\nthe same time as I scam cheap internet access.<\/p>\n
I was going to say something about time zones here, but that would
\nbe silly\u00e2\u20ac\u201dit\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s unlikely I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be reachable by the postal service,
\nmuch less by a telephone number. Ever. That should be interesting.<\/p>\n
I will be using a top-secret yahoo mail account I normally ignore
\n(so don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t try to send mail to me there while I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m in the States) in
\ncase I can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t reach my normal set of accounts. It is ask_dh@yahoo.com\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 I think. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve never actually sent mail to it.<\/p>\n
If you want a postcard\u00e2\u20ac\u201dand I want you to want a postcard, because
\nI\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m going to be bored senseless on trains and buses for many, many
\nhours\u00e2\u20ac\u201dyou\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d best be sending your postal address for the month of
